The DMHFSC receiving the SDRFF and SDGE grant in June 2026
The DMHFSC has received a grant of $6,700 from the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation (SDRFF) and SDGE to support fire education events in the community, such as our workshops, and to implement SparkSecure26, a fuel reduction project in Crest Canyon, in a two-stage process.
Identify: We aim to carry out a professional canyon survey to identify high-priority areas and the most effective fuel reduction treatments.
Remove: This will be followed by approximately three days of hands-on fuel reduction work in partnership with environmental organizations, targeting dead trees, ladder fuels, and invasive species. In doing so, we will create strategic fire breaks in the canyon to lower the speed at which a fire can spread.
While the grant will partially fund the project, the DMHFSC is counting on community contributions to help bring it to completion and take a meaningful step toward reducing wildfire risk in the area. Visit our "Donate" page to learn more about how to help us take action to protect lives, homes, and open space from the growing threat of wildfire.
The DMHFSC successfully created a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for Del Mar Heights!
CWPPs are blueprints for preparedness at the neighborhood level. They organize a community’s efforts to protect itself against wildfire, and empower citizens to move in a cohesive, common direction.
